PUTRAJAYA, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- The government takes allegations of attempts to topple the administration and sabotage national stability very seriously, said Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, spokesman for the MADANI government.

The Minister of Communications confirmed that the matter has been fully entrusted to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for investigation.

“This is a matter of utmost seriousness, and we have, of course, left it to PDRM to conduct a full investigation,” he said at a post-Cabinet press conference here today.

Also present was Ministry of Communications secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said today that the police are investigating claims of attempts to destabilise the government, involving a prominent local figure in collaboration with international media agencies.

Mohd Khalid said the police received a report on the matter yesterday, and the investigation is being conducted by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department's Prosecution and Law Division (D5).

The case is being investigated under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which criminalises any act, directly or indirectly, that undermines parliamentary democracy. This section carries imprisonment for a term of up to 20 years upon conviction.

Regarding allegations of data-selling activities involving several ministries, Fahmi said he would contact the National Security Council and the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) to obtain further information.

“Matters relating to cybersecurity are being examined by NACSA. To date, the Ministry of Communications has not received any information, and the Cabinet has not discussed the matter,” he said.
