PUTRAJAYA, March 15 (Bernama) -- A total of 78 orphans and asnaf from Rumah Pengasih Warga Prihatin (RPWP) in Bangi were celebrated at the Sinar Kasih: Iftar dan Silaturrahim Bersama Pelajar Anak Yatim dan Asnaf programme organised by the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) in collaboration with Malaysian Reinsurance Bhd (Malaysian Re).

Held in conjunction with Ramadan, the programme gave the children the opportunity to choose their own Hari Raya clothing and essentials during a special shopping trip at a mall, bringing cheer ahead of Syawal.

MTA chief operating officer Hasri Hamidan said the programme was among the welfare initiatives carried out by the takaful industry during Ramadan to support those in need.

“The Sinar Kasih programme gives orphans the opportunity to shop for Hari Raya necessities while experiencing the joy of Ramadan,” he told Bernama.

He said the programme received full sponsorship from Malaysian Re through its Wakalah Zakat fund, amounting RM40,195, as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts.

About 30 volunteers from MTA and Malaysian Re accompanied the children during the outing to ensure they could select their clothing and other essentials comfortably.

After the shopping trip, the participants gathered for a breaking-of-fast event as part of the programme.

Part of the contribution was also channelled to RPWP in support of the welfare home’s efforts in caring for and guiding the orphans and asnaf.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Re president and chief executive officer Ahmad Noor Azhari Abdul Manaf said the initiative reflected the company’s commitment to channel Wakalah Zakat funds to those in need through programmes that deliver direct benefits to the community.

“We believe the zakat funds entrusted to us should be utilised effectively to help improve the well-being of asnaf groups, especially children who need support in their daily lives.

“Through our collaboration with MTA in this programme, we hope it will not only benefit the recipients but also nurture a spirit of care and togetherness among all parties involved,” he said.
