Two Melaka Firms Breached Halal Rules, Not Business Licences

06/04/2026 04:35 PM

MELAKA, April 6 (Bernama) -- Two food and beverage companies in Melaka were found to have breached Malaysia Halal Certification (SPHM) requirements, not business licensing conditions, and are therefore still allowed to operate.

State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin said SPHM is not a requirement for business licence applications, which fall under the jurisdiction of local authorities (PBT).

He said the companies’ SPHM certification had been revoked, adding that it falls under the purview of the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).

Rais said the clarification was necessary following confusion circulating on social media over the differing jurisdictions.

“We do not want the public to misunderstand and assume that the state government is disregarding issues affecting the Muslim community, particularly those related to halal matters,” he told reporters here today.

He added that the state government would not compromise with any party that violates business licensing conditions and action would be taken accordingly.
