KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) -- Climbing a 192-metre hill in traditional songket attire is remarkable, but holding a wedding reception at the summit makes it truly unforgettable. This is exactly what Haniin Omar, 50, and Rahmat Samad, 60, two members of a hiking group, did on April 5.
The function took place at the top of Bukit 527 in Salak Perdana in Sepang, Selangor, attended by more than 200 hikers from Tebas Hikers.
According to Haniin, the idea for the venue came from fellow group members due to time constraints in securing a suitable venue for the wedding reception.

“Our friends suggested that we have the function on the hilltop since facilities like canopy, surau and toilets were already available.
“The event was mainly for active Tebas Hikers members, along with friends from other groups who were also invited,” she told Bernama when contacted.
The unique wedding reception captured public attention after a video shared by a guest went viral on social media.

Haniin, who hails from Muar, Johor, said hiking in full wedding attire was one of the most memorable moments of her life.
“We’re used to hiking, so wearing outfits like baju kurung or baju Melayu is no problem. But songket is thicker and more restrictive, so our movements were limited and we had to climb more slowly.
“Usually, it takes us about 10 minutes to reach the top (of Bukit 527), but that day it took around 35 minutes,” she said.

The guests were also treated to various delicious dishes, including nasi minyak, ayam masak merah, daging masak hitam, dalca, pajeri and fruits.
“We catered the food, but getting it up the hill required teamwork. Since there were many of us, each of us carried something,” Haniin added.
The couple’s marriage was solemnised at Masjid Kariah Bukit Kadir in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, on April 4. They plan to hold a thanksgiving ceremony in Muar soon.
