07/04/2026 02:19 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysian students abroad remain generally safe despite current geopolitical challenges, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

He said the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) is working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) to monitor the welfare and safety of Malaysians overseas.

“We will continue to assist them, with support provided on a case-by-case basis,” he told reporters after officiating the Public-Private Research Network (PPRN) 2026 Conference today.

Zambry added that the situation varies by country, depending on the number of students and local challenges.

Separately, he stressed that MOHE will take a zero-tolerance approach toward corruption in higher education institutions.

He said any abuse of power or corruption at universities, polytechnics, or other higher education institutions must be addressed seriously, regardless of scale.

He confirmed that MOHE fully cooperates with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in investigations and reviews, and refers financial management and project matters to the National Audit Department.
