SERDANG, April 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was named the winner of the Highest Media Coverage category, the top award at Universiti Putra Malaysia’s (UPM) Media Awards 2025 tonight.

The award recognises Bernama’s continued commitment to highlighting the university’s expertise, knowledge-sharing and research activities, as evidenced by the highest number of media mentions.

The award was presented by UPM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah to Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin at the UPM Media Engagement 2026 ceremony.

As the top winner, Bernama received RM1,500 in cash, along with a plaque and a certificate of appreciation.

Bernama also won the Highest Online Portal Coverage category, recognising its role in enhancing the university's digital coverage, taking home RM500 in cash, along with a plaque and certificate.

Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Malaysia Gazette finished second and third, respectively, each receiving a certificate of appreciation.

Bernama Radio continued the agency’s success by finishing second in the Highest Radio Coverage category, with BFM Radio taking first place and Nasional FM placing third.

The first-place winner in the radio category received RM500, a plaque, and a certificate, while the second and third-place winners each received a certificate of appreciation.

Meanwhile, Bernama TV’s talk show Apa Khabar Malaysia was named one of four recipients of the Special Recognition Award for Talk Shows, for consistently featuring UPM experts and boosting the university’s visibility, alongside Malaysia Hari Ini (TV3), Selamat Pagi Malaysia (RTM), and Awani Pagi (Astro Awani).

Meanwhile, Nur-ul Afida described winning the Top Media Coverage Award as a major recognition of the news agency’s ongoing commitment to disseminating knowledge and expertise from higher education institutions.

She said the achievement reflects the collective effort of the entire Bernama team in delivering high-quality news, photos, and coverage across all categories, especially in education and university expertise.

“This is Bernama’s biggest achievement in the first quarter of 2026, and I want to congratulate the entire team. Without their dedication, winning this top award wouldn’t have been possible,” she said after the ceremony.

Nur-ul Afida said Bernama will continue to deepen its collaboration with UPM and other higher learning institutions through platforms such as the Malay-language ‘Tinta Minda’ (https://www.bernama.com/bm/tintaminda/) and the English-language ‘Thoughts’ (https://www.bernama.com/en/thoughts/), providing academics with a space to share their insights and research.

“The platforms not only highlight university expertise to the public but also give the media a chance to produce more in-depth follow-up reports based on expert insights,” she said.

Also representing the news agency were Bernama TV Assistant Producer Mohamad Zikirullah Zolkefli, Senior Manager of Bernama Radio, who is also carrying out the duties of Head of Radio Endok Baleana Bachok, and Bernama.com Assistant Content Editor Amrizan Madian.
