Nur Shazrin, Muhammad Izham Crowned Pahang Sportswoman, Sportsman

KUANTAN, May 5 (Bernama) -- National competitive sailor Nur Shazrin Mohd Latif and national men’s indoor hockey player Muhammad Izham Azhar have been crowned Pahang Sportswoman and Sportsman for 2023/2024.

Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah presented the biennial awards at the Pahang Sports Award Ceremony 2023/2024 at Sultan Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Hall here today.

Nur Shazrin described the award as a most honoured achievement as she beat other illustrious nominees  such as pole vaulter Nur Sarah Adi, lawn bowler Nur Alyani Jamil, petanque athlete Nur Thahirah Tasnim Abdul Aziz and kegler Faten Najihah Ahmad Faik. 

“I did not expect to win. I’m currently only competing in the Asian Games and am in the top 10 of the Star Sailors League (SSL) Gold Cup,” she said when met by reporters here today, adding that she was currently focused on preparing for the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan this September even as she’s recovering from a hand injury.

“I’m still in rehabilitation, but I expect to return to training next week to prepare for the Asian Games,” she said.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Izham expressed his appreciation for receiving such an honour.

“I was rather surprised when my name was announced, but I do feel proud with this achievement. I would like to thank my family and coaches who have supported me so much and guided me since my time as a student,” he said.

He also shared a bit of his future plans, saying that he was currently focused on the the Malaysian Indoor  Hockey League competition and was preparing for the possibility of playing at the Indoor Hockey Asian Cup in July.
