LOS ANGELES, June 6 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Measles cases in the United States have surpassed 2,000 for the second consecutive year, according to data released Friday by the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reported Xinhua.
In a news release, the CDC said that 2,030 confirmed measles cases had been reported nationwide so far this year.
The agency reported 30 new outbreaks in 2026, with 93 per cent of all confirmed cases linked to outbreaks. About 72 per cent of cases have occurred among individuals under the age of 20.
The hospitalisation rate stood at about 6 per cent in 2026, down from 11 per cent in 2025.
Last year, the United States recorded a total of 2,288 confirmed measles cases, the highest annual tally since measles was declared eliminated in the country in 2000 and the largest number of cases reported in more than three decades.
