IPOH, June 14 (Bernama) -- Solidarity With Dara, Amoi & Kelat (DAK) secretariat coordinator Neow Choo Seong will hold a Solidarity With DAK Run out of concern for the three Malaysian elephants in Tennoji Zoo in Japan.
The secretariat said Neow will undertake a solo run of around 290 kilometres (km) across Perak, Selangor, and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur in six days from June 17 in Ipoh and ending at the Parliament Building on June 22.
“The run is a manifestation of the commitment and solidarity demanding attention from the government and stakeholders for the welfare of these elephants,” the secretariat said in a statement today.
Neow, who is MCA Youth Information Chief, will run 61 km from Taiping to Ipoh on June 17, Ipoh-Kampar, 44 km (June 18), Kampar-Tapah, 45 km (June 19), Bidor-Tanjung Malim, 60km (June 20), Tanjung Malim-Selayang, 60km (June 21) and Selayang-Parliament. 20 km (June 22) and hand in the petition at the entrance on the first day of the Parliamentary sitting to Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong to be brought to the Dewan Rakyat.
He will also hold meeting sessions with local communities at every running stop to create awareness about the issue and to drum up support to ensure the elephants’ continued well being.
“This run is not a just a physical activity, but way to push for Dara, Amoi, and Kelat to be brought home to Malaysia.
“Time is of the essence. Dara, Amoi, and Kelat’s condition since being taken to Japan on March 11 has been declining and it needs to be debated immediately in the Dewan Rakyat,” he added.
