KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) -- The Ascent, Paradigm PJ, a 32-storey Grade-A corporate office tower developed and managed by WCT Land Sdn Bhd, has been awarded the GreenRE Gold certification under the Non-Residential Building category.

In a statement today, WCT Holdings Berhad said the recognition marks a significant milestone in its sustainability journey.

WCT Land is the property development, investment and management arm of WCT Holdings Berhad.

The company said the certification, awarded by GreenRE Malaysia in early 2026, recognised the environmental performance of the 10-year-old office asset following enhancements in energy management, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality and responsible building operations.

“Conferred by GreenRE, the certification recognises buildings with strong environmental performance across key sustainability pillars, including energy efficiency, water efficiency, carbon emission reduction, environmental protection and indoor environmental quality,” the statement read.

Among the sustainability initiatives implemented at The Ascent are energy management policies, a medium-term energy-saving plan, LED lighting upgrades in common areas, energy-efficient lift operations, indoor air quality audits in compliance with requirements set by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and water monitoring through sub-metering systems.

According to the statement, the building has also introduced recycling and waste segregation facilities, while its naturally ventilated elevated car parks and office spaces designed to maximise external views contribute to improved energy efficiency, occupant comfort and overall well-being.

WCT Holdings Berhad Group managing director Datuk Lee Tuck Fook said, the achievement reflected the group’s commitment to integrating sustainable design principles into urban development.

“This achievement aligns with the Property Development division’s commitment to integrating green design principles across its developments. WCT Land has set a target to obtain green building certification for all new developments, excluding affordable housing, from 2025 onwards, meeting or exceeding the minimum Bronze rating under GreenRE.

“Achieving GreenRE Gold for The Ascent demonstrates that sustainability is not limited to new developments. By enhancing an existing asset, we are extending the building’s lifecycle, improving operational efficiency, and reinforcing our commitment to responsible property development,” he said.

Meanwhile, WCT Holdings Berhad chief operating officer (Property Development) Chong Wah Hing said, the certification underscored the group’s focus on creating efficient and future-ready workplaces.

“The GreenRE Gold certification for The Ascent reflects our focus on creating buildings that combine stronger environmental performance with a better tenant experience. Through thoughtful upgrades and sustainable practices, we are enhancing the quality and efficiency of our assets to better meet evolving occupier expectations,” he said.

WCT Holdings Berhad said the recognition aligns with Malaysia’s sustainability agenda under the 12th Malaysia Plan, which outlines the country’s aspiration to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

It added that the growing importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices has increased demand for green-certified office buildings among organisations seeking environmentally responsible workplaces.

Apart from The Ascent, several other WCT Land developments have also obtained GreenRE certification, including Aras Residences and Pavilion Mont’ Kiara, which received provisional GreenRE Silver certification, while The Maple Residences achieved GreenRE Bronze certification and Adison Serviced Apartments was awarded provisional GreenRE Bronze certification.

According to WCT, the recognitions reflect its continued efforts to embed sustainability across the design, construction and operational phases of its developments, in line with the group's long-term strategy to deliver environmentally responsible projects that create lasting value for tenants, investors and communities.
