KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- A new mosque capable of accommodating more than 1,500 worshippers will be built in Bukit Bintang and is expected to be completed early next year, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
He said the mosque would replace the Outreach Oasis Bukit Bintang (OOBB) community centre, which is currently being used as a temporary Friday prayer surau following approval granted by the Federal Territories Syariah Law Consultative Committee during a special meeting held on June 8.
"Once it is completed, all congregants will gather there, while the OOBB community centre, will continue with its dakwah activities,” he told reporters after performing Friday prayer at the OOBB today.
According to him, the mosque's design and plans have been prepared and construction work is expected to commence soon.
"The construction of the mosque is being carried out through the cooperation of various parties, including the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), as well as several non-governmental organisations," he added.
