IPOH, June 23 (Bernama) -- The National Art Gallery will present a special exhibition themed “Lat: Dulu-Dulu” in conjunction with the Malaysia Culture Festival @ Perak 2026, to be held at  Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah Meru near here from June 25 to 28.

In a statement, the National Art Gallery said the interactive exhibition would showcase the works and legacy of the country's ninth National Laureate, Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid, better known as Datuk Lat, who is renowned for iconic works such as Kampung Boy and Keluarga Si Mamat.

The exhibition will allow visitors to experience life in Malaysia in the past through life-sized sets and props inspired by Datuk Lat’s works, including recreations of a traditional village house veranda, a traditional wedding ceremony, family life scenes and nostalgic objects frequently featured in his illustrations.

According to the statement, the theme was chosen not only to honour Datuk Lat’s contributions as a national artist, but also because the festival is being held in Perak, his home state.

It said the exhibition also serves as a tribute to the artist, whose contributions to cartoon art and visual storytelling have earned international recognition.

The festival, organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), will run from 9 am to midnight and feature a variety of arts, cultural and heritage activities reflecting Malaysia’s diverse identity.

Visitors can also take part in interactive activities, including drawing and colouring sessions, photography sessions, AI Photo experiences inspired by Lat’s characters, and the Art Pacak exhibition featuring large-scale sketches based on local culture and heritage.

The National Art Gallery will also organise outdoor screenings of several iconic films by the late Mamat Khalid, including Hantu Kak Limah, Zombi Kampung Pisang, Manap Karaoke and 17 Puasa, as well as a special documentary on the acclaimed filmmaker.

Another attraction is the recreation of the iconic Warung Pak Jabit prop, synonymous with the late Mamat Khalid’s works, offering visitors a closer and more immersive experience.

The National Art Gallery hopes its participation in the festival will bring the public closer to visual arts through a relaxed, interactive and family-friendly approach, while strengthening appreciation of the nation’s arts, culture and heritage among people of all ages.
