NUR@PETRA Programme To Roll Out In July To Promote Energy Efficiency

29/06/2026 02:25 PM

PUTRAJAYA, June 29 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), through the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) as the implementing agency, will carry out the NUR@PETRA Programme for 2026 for the Domestic Category beginning next month.

The programme is part of the government's efforts to help people face the challenges of the supply crisis arising from rising energy costs and uncertainties in the global energy market caused by geopolitical conflicts in West Asia, while also advancing the nation's energy transition agenda.

PETRA said the implementation of the NUR@PETRA Domestic Programme is expected to reduce electricity consumption by 552.25 gigawatt-hours (GWh), equivalent to cost savings of RM250.72 million over a five-year period.

"This programme is expected to contribute to a reduction of 408,655 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CO2eq), subject to the lifespan and operational efficiency of the equipment concerned,” it said in a statement today.

Rebate applications for the Domestic Category will be open from July 1.

PETRA said the government has allocated a total of 160,000 rebate units worth RM32 million for the programme's implementation this year.

Eligible domestic users can enjoy a RM200 rebate for the purchase of energy-efficient air conditioners or refrigerators that carry a four- or five-star energy efficiency label from the Energy Commission (ST).

Further information on eligibility criteria, application methods, implementation mechanisms and the list of brands and models of energy-efficient electrical appliances under the NUR@PETRA 2026 Programme can be obtained via SEDA's official website at www.seda.gov.my/nur.

The implementation of the NUR@PETRA Domestic Programme, among others, aims to encourage domestic users to switch to energy-efficient electrical appliances, especially air conditioners and refrigerators.
