MOSCOW, July 16 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- Usha Vance, the wife of Senator J.D. Vance who was picked as running mate by former US president Donald Trump earlier in the week, has resigned from her job at a law firm, reported Sputnik, citing the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper.

On Monday, Trump announced Vance as his running mate for the 2024 presidential race. If Trump wins the election, Vance will become the vice president.

"Usha has informed us she has decided to leave the firm," a spokesperson for the San Francisco-based Munger, Tolles and Olson firm said in a statement, thanking her for her work and wishing "the best in her future career".

Vance is known for criticising the US multi-billion dollar military aid to Ukraine and calling for talks with Russia. He also urges the US government to shift attention towards competition with China. On internal politics, he supports an abortion ban and the tightening of migration legislation.

The US presidential election is slated for Nov 5. The main contenders expected on the ballot are President Joe Biden and his predecessor, Trump.
