MAHAR CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE, REOPENING OF RAFAH BORDERS

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Humanitarian Aid and Relief (MAHAR) calls for an immediate ceasefire and reopening of Rafah borders for humanitarian aid in Gaza.

MAHAR Honorary Advisor Nurul Izzah Anwar said The Lancet journal reported as of last June, about 138,000 Palestinians have been killed.

“The latest attacks on the Al-Awda School in Abasan have claimed dozens of lives and injured hundreds of others. A few days after the massacre, the Israeli regime again attacked other refugee camps, namely Mawasi camp in Khan Younis and Shati camp in Gaza City.

“The brutal killing of civilians, especially children, is an act that goes beyond all boundaries of humanity. Israel has blatantly used starvation and forced displacement as weapons of war - violating all forms of basic humanity against civilians in Gaza,” she said in a statement today.

Nurul Izzah also shared the dire situation in Gaza, where 90 per cent of buildings were destroyed and health services are on the brink of collapse, and the closure of the Rafah humanitarian aid route has left Gazans facing severe shortages of food and medicine.

“The spread of infectious diseases exacerbates an already severe humanitarian crisis,” she added.

Nurul Izzah emphasised that Palestinians deserve equal rights and the establishment of a sovereign state, supported by 145 out of 193 United Nations member states.

She said a ceasefire is the solution for Israel and it must immediately end the killing of innocent Gazans.
