VIETNAM'S RICE EXPORTS BOOMING WITH OPPORTUNITIES THIS YEAR

22/07/2024 04:30 PM

HANOI, July 22 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Vietnam has numerous opportunities to boost rice exports in the remaining months of 2024.  Demand for rice globally is still high, reported Xinhua quoting local media Cong Ly Monday which cited the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

According to the Ministry's Import-Export Department, after a long period of rising export prices, the fall in Vietnamese rice prices followed the trend of the global rice price.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said the ministry now placed top priorities on high-quality seed production, major export products, and the formation of quality varieties with high yields, which are disease-resistant and can adapt to different climates.

According to the ministry, Vietnam's rice exports in the first six months of 2024 were a bright spot, with a volume of 4.68 million tonnes and turnover of US$2.98 billion, up 10.4 per cent in volume and 32 per cent in value over the same period last year.

The ministry expects Vietnam to export about 8 million tonnes of rice this year, earning more than US$5 billion.

The Philippines, Indonesia, China, Ghana, Malaysia, and Singapore will be the main export markets of Vietnamese rice for the remainder of the year.
