MOUNTAIN BIKE: KEDAH STEAL SHOW WITH TWO GOLDS ON FINAL DAY

KUCHING, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Kedah riders dominated the final day of mountain bike (MTB) at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) when they clinched two gold medals in the Olympic Cross-Country events at Bukit Siol here.

Kedah enjoyed a 1-2-3 finish in the Olympic Cross-Country women’s event with Phi Kun Pan finishing in 1 hour, 21 minutes and 12 seconds (s) for gold, followed by Nurul Nabilah Mohd Asri in 1:25:38s for silver and Nur Fitrah Shaari (1:25:54s). 

The young Kedah squad continued to excel when Phi Kun and Nur Fitrah combined with Ammar Yasir and Muhammad Aiman Supri to deliver gold number two in the Olympic Cross-Country mixed relay.

They clocked 1:07:57s for the gold, leaving Johor (1:14:20s) to take silver and Sabah (1:24:00s) the bronze.

Meanwhile, Perak’s Muhammad Syawal Mzalin outlasted two Terengganu riders to clinch gold in the men’s category of the Olympic Cross-Country event in 1:18:28s.

Saniy Syu’aib Mohd Safiee clocked 1:22:35s for silver while Muhammad Effan Wafiy Nor Effandy took bronze in 1:27:35s.

The cycling competition, which began on Aug 14, offers a total of 15 gold medals, with Terengganu and Kedah each bagging five golds, Perak two and Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang one each.
