SINGAPORE, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Badminton legends, such as Taufik Hidayat, Boonsak Ponsana, and Tony Gunawan, are set to battle it out at the 10th Foo Kok Keong (FKK) International Cup, taking place from September 27 to 29 at the Singapore Badminton Stadium @ KFF Badminton Arena.

The tournament, named after Malaysia’s badminton legend Datuk Foo Kok Keong, will feature teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, Australia, Sri Lanka and India, this year.

The organiser said this year’s tournament format features five matches per team: one mixed doubles, and four men’s doubles.

An individual event – introduced in the 9th edition of the competition last year in Cambodia – will also be held, where pairs with a combined age of 110 or more can compete.

Kok Keong, reflecting on the tournament's significance, said it’s inspiring to see how the FKK Cup has grown over the years, becoming a true celebration of badminton’s legacy.

“I’m thrilled to see old friends and new faces competing at this wonderful new venue in Singapore,” he said in a statement, Friday.

Kok Keong will present the FKK Cup to winners at a gala dinner on Sept 29.

Founder Alice Soon said she is extremely excited to witness some of the best players in action in the tournament that was originally organised to honour the contributions and commitment of Kok Keong and other Malaysian players who won the Thomas Cup in 1992.

“Little did I know that the tournament would become a monumental experience and event that would leave a lasting impact on the badminton scene,” she said.

The FKK International Cup, founded by Soon and her husband Captain Quek Peng Chai, was aimed at honouring past badminton champions while fostering new friendships and promoting lifelong fitness among senior players.

Since its inception in 2012, the tournament has grown from featuring primarily Malaysian state teams to welcoming participants across the Asia Pacific region.
