VIENTIANE, Sept 17 (Bernama-KPL) -- Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has been honoured with the Distinguished ASEAN Leader Award 2024, according to the Laos News Agency (KPL).
The award was presented to Prime Minister Sonexay by President of the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific and the ASEAN Economic Club Tan Sri Michael Yeoh, during the 2024 ASEAN Leadership and Partnership Forum held in Vientiane on Monday (Sept 16).
This prestigious recognition highlights Prime Minister Sonexay's significant contributions to the development of the Laos and his leadership in ASEAN affairs, particularly during Laos’ ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024.
The Distinguished ASEAN Leader Award is a notable accolade awarded to ASEAN leaders who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to regional development.
In his acceptance speech, Sonexay expressed deep gratitude to the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific and the ASEAN Economic Club.
He emphasised that the award not only reflects his efforts but also recognises the contributions of the Laos people and the unwavering support from ASEAN member countries and external partners.
The prime minister also extended his appreciation to the KSI Strategic Institute for its backing of ASEAN initiatives and its support for the Laos’ ASEAN Chairmanship under the theme “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience.”
He noted that such support is crucial to ensuring the success of the Laos’ ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024.
