BEIJING, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation, a communication technology company, and U Mobile, a mobile data service provider, have today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop intelligent agriculture applications and implement effective deployment solutions.
ZTE Malaysia managing director Steven Ge said the collaboration focuses on providing rapid and effective mobile coverage to enhance rural development in sectors such as tourism, education, healthcare and agriculture.
He said ZTE will leverage its technological expertise to deliver tailored solutions for local needs.
“In the field of agriculture, the collaboration will concentrate on utilising 5G-powered intelligent solutions, cloud platforms, RedCap and internet of things (IoT) to automate and improve the productivity of farming operations.
“This supports Malaysia's digital transformation in the agricultural sector, including solutions for autonomous machinery and machine vision inspections," he said following the MoU signing ceremony in ZTE’s Beijing office.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended and witnessed by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, along with ZTE Corporation president of overseas Xiao Ming and U Mobile chief information officer Neil Tomkinson.
The MoU was signed by U Mobile chief marketing officer Navin Manian Navin Manian, and Steven Ge, representing ZTE.
Steven highlighted that the partnership will incorporate ZTE’s advanced radio access network (RAN) deployment technology, which features lightweight, low-powered base stations and eco-friendly energy solutions such as lithium batteries and solar panels.
These innovations will enable the rapid and efficient rollout of mobile sites in rural areas, while providing cost-effective backhaul options to enhance connectivity in regions lacking fibre infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Navin said this collaboration aligns with their ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide in Malaysia, particularly in underserved rural communities.
“We believe that our ability to play an active role in the national agenda of transforming Malaysia into a digitally enabled and technology-driven country will be further enhanced by knowledge and insight sharing, as well as leveraging ZTE’s technology.
“We look forward to showcasing the benefits that 5G digital transformation will bring to key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, tourism and education in Malaysia,” he added.
