KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry has advised Malaysians in Florida to remain vigilant as Hurricane Milton, now a Category 5 storm, approaches the United States Gulf Coast.

Citing the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC), the ministry said the hurricane which recorded wind speeds of up to 281 km/h, “is expected to make landfall on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.”

“Milton is expected to grow in size and remain an extremely dangerous hurricane with expected moderate to major river flooding, life-threatening storm surge, heavy rainfall, and hurricane-force winds,” it said.

Thus, the ministry is advising Malaysians residing in or visiting Florida to remain vigilant and follow all evacuation and safety instructions issued by local authorities.

“Given the severity of Hurricane Milton, it is crucial to stay informed through reliable sources and prepare accordingly,” it said.

The ministry added that Malaysians are strongly encouraged to register their presence via E-Konsular to receive timely updates and support.

For consular assistance in Florida, Malaysians may contact the Malaysian Embassy in Washington DC at 3516 International Court N.W., Washington DC, 20008 or via phone number +1 (202) 375 4396 and email address; mwwashington@kln.gov.my / consularwdc@kln.gov.my.

The ministry said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of all Malaysians in the affected regions.

Up to 15 inches of rain is possible for some isolated areas, international media reports quoted the hurricane centre.
