KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications has chosen Kampung Tebat Kering, Kuala Pilah in Negeri Sembilan as an adopted village.

Its minister, Fahmi Fadzil said he wanted to ensure that various aspects related to the community's needs in the village are taken care of.

"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim requested not just the physical aspect (adopted village) but also to look into community aspects and issues, for example, why many do not pass the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or do not attend the SPM examination or perhaps the issue of unemployment," he said.

"The PM asks us to spend more time and stay grounded. He does not want ministers or senior officials to seem aloof….need to understand the people's problems."

He said this to reporters after attending the Deepavali Fiesta event at IWK Eco Park @ Pantai Dalam here, which was also attended by Deputy National Unity Minister Saraswathy Kandasamy.

On May 8, Fahmi, during a press conference after the Cabinet Meeting, stated that all ministers were asked to immediately adopt a village in line with the Prime Minister's suggestion that every leader in the country, including the Prime Minister, be responsible for overseeing a village.

Fahmi, who is also the Unity Government spokesman, said the effort aims to delve into local issues and resolve as many problems as possible facing the residents.
