RIYADH, Nov 12 (Bernama-SPA) -- The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has emphasised that the current Israeli strategy aims to eradicate the Palestinian community in Gaza, either through coercive or voluntary displacement, thereby dismantling an entire society along with its institutions and social fabric.
He stated that this action will ultimately extinguish the prospect of future restoration and undermine the Palestinian aspirations for an independent state
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that this statement was made during Aboul Gheit participation in the Extraordinary Arab Islamic Summit held in Riyadh on Monday.
He articulated that Israel's actions are undermining the prospects for coexistence in the region and obstructing the potential for peace, which we advocate for based on justice.
He added that today's summit conveys a clear message: the world cannot endure the repercussions of this ongoing violence, which jeopardises the entire region's stability.
"The absence of accountability for Israel has emboldened it to pursue indescribable plans. The Middle East will not relinquish the establishment of an independent sovereign Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital," Aboul Gheit said.
He affirmed that the bombing in Lebanon persists, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and the devastation of both private and public property.
"The civilian casualty count is escalating, and the plight of one million displaced individuals is deteriorating, further burdening a nation already suffering from prolonged crises.
A ceasefire must be established in Lebanon, contingent upon the full implementation of Resolution no. 1701 in all its phases to ensure security on both sides of the border," he concluded.
