KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- National head coach Pau Marti Vicente is hoping that his charges can make up for the disappointment of losing 0-4 at the hands of New Zealand last month with an impressive victory when they meet Laos in Thailand tomorrow.
The Spanish coach said that apart from winning, he hopes that his players, especially the new faces who have been called up to the national squad this time, can play with the style of play he has applied.
“Of course we want to have a good result and a good win against Laos. But I think it is better for us to focus on ourselves and how we can perform our best. The players are free from injuries and ready to face Laos.
“We need to build our confidence. Winning is important but they also need to play in their style,” he said in an audio recording shared by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today.
“Today as the last day of training we try to focus on the defensive set up to make sure they all know what they need to do. Hopefully nothing happens (today) and everybody is available for tomorrow (match),” he said.
Harimau Malaya has an impressive track record against Laos, having won all eight previous meetings.
After tomorrow’s match against Laos, Malaysia will fly off to India for their second Tier 1 friendly match scheduled on Monday.
