PADANG BESAR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The Special Agro MADANI Border Sales programme organised by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) has recorded total sales of RM170,112 through 13 sessions held across Malaysia-Thailand border states so far.

FAMA chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli said the programme, involving four states—Perlis, Kedah, Perak, and Kelantan—engaged 231 entrepreneurs and benefited 5,670 consumers and 22,682 households, resulting in overall savings of RM51,033.

“In Perlis alone, the programme has been held four times, covering areas such as Wang Kelian and Padang Besar, with sales amounting to RM51,415. It involved 106 entrepreneurs, benefiting 6,848 households with total savings of RM15,425,” he said.

He spoke to reporters after attending the sales programme and the ‘High-Profile Policing PDRM X FAMA’ programme here today.

Also present was Perlis police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim.

Aminuddin said the special sales programme was organised in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call to boost economic activities in border areas during a Cabinet meeting on Sept 18.

“The Malaysia-Thailand border has its unique attractions, but currently, outbound attractions seem to dominate. Instead of allowing money outflows to continue, we’ve explored ways to address this.

“By organising such activities, we can also make the border area an attraction for neighbouring residents to visit,” he said.
