MELAKA, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Social Welfare Department (JKM) has deployed 152 psychology officers to flood-affected areas to help restore the emotional and mental well-being of flood evacuees.

The Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, highlighted that the recent floods have significantly affected the mental and emotional well-being of those impacted.

“We have mobilised 152 officers specialising in psychosocial support, alongside 1,047 volunteers providing additional assistance,” she told reporters after officiating the Better Brighter Anjung Kasih YKN-TNB at Melaka Hospital today.

Also present was Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Dzulkefly announced that the Ministry of Health has activated the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MPHSS) team to assist flood victims experiencing emotional and mental distress caused by this year’s northeast monsoon.

“MHPSS serves as our frontline in delivering psychological support through psychological first aid sessions,” he said.

He also noted that the ministry is providing psychological education to flood evacuees, as well as conducting relaxation sessions and other beneficial activities.

As of 9 am today, the number of evacuees has decreased to 65,899 from 67,453 reported last night, as conditions improved in Terengganu, Perak, and Kedah.
