KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- A delegation of Turkmenistan media members paid a courtesy visit to the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) on Wednesday, ahead of Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's official visit to Malaysia, scheduled for Dec 18 to 19.
The delegation was led by deputy chairman of the Turkmen State News Agency, Sahetmyrat Kakyshev, and comprised prominent editors from leading Turkmenistan media organisations.
They included the editor-in-chief of the Türkmenistan newspaper, Kakamyrat Rejepov; editor-in-chief of the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper, Mayya Alimova; editor-in-chief of the Watan newspaper, Tavus Kakayeva, and editor-in-chief of the Dünýä Edebiýaty magazine, Rahmet Gylyjov.
Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj welcomed the delegation at the news agency’s headquarters here.
Arul Rajoo said among the key topics discussed during the meeting was the potential for exchanging news and exploring further collaborations in various areas.
These include offering Turkmenistan's media a comprehensive coverage of ASEAN, particularly in light of Malaysia assuming the chairmanship of the bloc in 2025.
"At the moment, we don't have any news exchange with Turkmenistan. We do have exchange (agreements) with other countries in Central Asia and also former Soviet Union countries. We are taking this opportunity to establish relations with Turkmenistan media," he said.
Kakyshev told Bernama: “We do hope that this meeting will provide an impetus for future meetings and help to strengthen the cooperation between our countries.”
Also present were International News Service executive editor Ravichandran DJ Paul, head of Bernama TV and Radio Broadcasting Department, Mohd Shukri Ishak; head of TV, Norhamzeela Md Hambali, and News Services executive editor Mohd Haikal Mohd Isa.
The visit underscored Malaysia's longstanding commitment to strengthening media cooperation with Turkmenistan as part of the two nations' broader bilateral ties.
Diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Turkmenistan were officially established in 1992.
