KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC suffered their first defeat in the 2024/25 ASEAN Club Championship campaign, losing 0-2 to Singapore’s Lion City Sailors in a Group B fixture at the Jalan Besar Stadium, tonight.
Lion City Sailors skipper Bailey Wright headed in a corner kick in the 26th minute to put the host team in front while Belgian winger Maxime Lestienne, then doubled the lead in the 66th minute to ensure Lion City Sailors’ first win in the third group stage match.
KL City had to accept their first defeat in the tournament, after having secured identical 1-0 victories against Kaya Iloilo of the Philippines and Indonesia’s Borneo FC Samarinda.
The City Boys will next take on Vietnam’s Cong An Ha Noi FC on Jan 23 in Cheras, before concluding the group stage against Buriram United at the Chang Arena on Feb 6.
KL City can still qualify for the semi-finals by finishing as the top two teams in the group.
