RABAT, Jan 18 (Bernama-MAP) -- Morocco has called for the ceasefire agreement in Gaza to be fully respected, saying that it should pave the way for a genuine peace process and establishment of a Palestinian State within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Morocco news agency (MAP) reported that King Mohammed VI, who is also chair of the Al-Quds Committee, commends the efforts to bring an end to the violence.

“The Kingdom calls on all Palestinian and Israeli parties to give peace a chance and to demonstrate sincere and constructive commitment, free from any short-term or opportunistic considerations,” the Moroccan Foreign Ministry said in a statement, as reported by MAP.

It expressed hope that the agreement would result in a halt to attacks on civilians, the return of displaced persons, and the unrestricted flow of sufficient humanitarian aid.

The three-phase ceasefire agreement, facilitated by Egypt, the United States (US) and Qatar, is set to come into effect on January 19 and aims to bring an end to the 15-month conflict in Gaza.
