KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is an important, reliable and time-tested partner of Uzbekistan with great potential not only in the Asian region and the Muslim world but also at the global level, said President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In his message displayed at the roundtable discussion titled “Cultural Heritage: A Bridge Between Uzbekistan and Malaysia” held at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia here today before his arrival for an official visit, Mirziyoyev said the diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Malaysia, established in 1992, is a reliable foundation for in-depth cooperation covering various spheres of public life.
“At present, we are all witnessing that relations between Uzbekistan and Malaysia are moving to a qualitatively new level,” he said.
According to Mirziyoyev, the strategic programmes “Uzbekistan-2030” and “Malaysia MADANI”, aimed at development and modernisation, are evidence that the peoples of Uzbekistan and Malaysia have common noble aspirations.
He regarded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to Uzbekistan last year as a new stage and beginning in the history of Uzbekistan-Malaysia relations.
Mirziyoyev expressed his optimism that the friendly relations and cooperation between Uzbekistan and Malaysia will continue to develop consistently and sustainably based on the joint efforts of both countries in the name of common interest and well-being.
Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilhom Khaydarov, who attended the event’s opening said Uzbekistan has very high expectations with the official visit of Mirziyoyev.
Earlier, the Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Mirziyoyev is set to undertake an official visit to Malaysia from Feb 4 to 5, marking his first trip to the country since assuming office in December 2016.
