GEORGE TOWN, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- The Penang Islamic Digital Library (PIDL) has been established at the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Al-Azhar University, Egypt, further strengthening the relationship between the state and the university.
Penang Islamic Religious Council (MAINPP) president Datuk Mohamad Abdul Hamid said PIDL is a special project by the Penang State Government to enhance the digital library network within the state and support the objectives of Penang Vision 2030. It is fully managed by the International Islamic Technology College (KITAB) in Penang.
Mohamad, along with a delegation from the Penang State Government, is currently at the university for the official launch of PIDL by Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.
“In my 2025 Budget debate during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session in November 2024, I expressed Penang’s commitment to strengthening the Education Pillar of the Penang Islamic Development Agenda 2030 (APAI2030) by establishing PIDL at the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Al-Azhar University, Egypt.
“Our objective is to promote Penang through the PIDL, foster collaboration with Al-Azhar Library, and further strengthen the state’s digital agenda,” he said in a statement tonight.
Mohamad, who is also Deputy Chief Minister I said PIDL is a gift from the state to the university and hoped that the facility would be fully utilised and help build stronger ties between both parties in the development of Islam in Penang.
