MAJORITY OF AMERICANS WANT US TO NEGOTIATE CEASEFIRE WITH IRAN – SURVEY

22/03/2026 12:05 AM

MOSCOW, March 21 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- More than half of United States (US) citizens would like to see the US and Iran engage in ceasefire negotiations, a YouGov survey revealed on Saturday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

The survey found that 66 per cent of US citizens would support US-Iran ceasefire negotiations, with 42 per cent claiming they would "strongly support" the decision, and 22 per cent saying they would only "somewhat support" it.

Only 15 per cent of respondents expressed the opposite view.

The survey was conducted from March 20-21 among over 3,700 adult Americans.

The estimated margin of error for the survey is approximately 1.8 percentage points.

On February 28, the US and Israel began striking targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.

Iran has carried out retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, as well as on US military targets in West Asia.

The US and Israel claimed their "preemptive" attack was necessary to counter the perceived threat coming from Iran’s nuclear programme.
