DOHA, May 3 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- A Togo-flagged oil tanker, M/T EUREKA, entered Somalian territorial waters on Sunday after being hijacked off the coast of Yemen, Yemen’s coast guard said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"The tanker, carrying about 2,800 tonnes of diesel fuel, is continuing its course towards the northeastern coast of Somalia under the control of nine Somalis armed with various weapons, including RPGs," the coast guard said.
The tanker was hijacked on Saturday near the southeastern coast of Yemen and diverted towards Somalia. It is transporting diesel fuel from the United Arab Emirates. There are 12 crew members from Egypt and India on board, the Yemeni coast guard said.
The coast guard said its vessels were unable to intercept the tanker and were forced to return to base in the Red Sea port of Aden due to operational constraints, crew safety considerations, and sea conditions.
