SHAH ALAM, June 19 (Bernama) -- A man suffered burns to his head and wrists, while his son suffered shortness of breath after the two-storey terrace house they lived in at Taman Seri Istana Hills, Klang, caught fire early this morning.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant operations director, Ashrul Riezal Asbar said in the incident at about 5.23 am, 70 per cent of the house was destroyed.

He said that upon receiving an emergency call, a team of personnel and officers from the Klang Selatan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were rushed to the location, assisted by personnel from the Klang Utara BBP.

"A total of 13 personnel along with two Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engines and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle were involved in the extinguishing operation.

"The fire was successfully brought under control at 5.47 am. There were two victims, a 57-year-old man who suffered about 10 per cent burns on his head and wrists, while his 28-year-old son suffered shortness of breath,” he said in a statement today.

Ashrul Riezal said both victims managed to get out of the house on their own after the fire spread quickly before the fire brigade's Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team then provided initial treatment and sent them to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for further treatment.

He said the extinguishing operation ended at 7.50 am.
