KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- The tabling of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on the management of issues related to the sovereignty of Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks, and South Ledge in the Dewan Rakyat demonstrates the transparency of the MADANI Government, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
While winding up the debate session on the motion, she said it enabled the government to adopt recommendations and decisions to address past shortcomings related to the issue.
She also criticised the actions of some MPs linking the motion to an alleged intention to prosecute certain individuals.
"The issue of whether to initiate charges or not, is a matter for the Attorney-General (to decide) and not a government issue. Under the Constitution, we all know that the Attorney-General is an independent individual.
"If there is a police report, the police will investigate, and then the Attorney-General will decide. If there is no police report so far, we in the House cannot direct the police to investigate or instruct the Attorney-General to prosecute; how is that possible?" she said.
