GEORGE TOWN, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Gold Association (MGA) sees potential in enhancing future exchanges and strengthening cooperation between the Chinese and ASEAN gold markets.

MGA President Datuk Louis Ng stated that Malaysia, with its strategic location, diverse demographics, multilingual capabilities and business-friendly policies, is ideally positioned as the premier gold trading hub for countries entering the Southeast Asian market.

In a statement, MGA said Ng had recently been invited by the China Gold Association (CGA) to speak at the 2024 China Gold Congress and Expo, held in Shanghai from July 26-28, 2024.

"The delegation’s participation in the 2024 China Gold Congress and Expo was exceptionally fruitful. It not only enhanced MGA’s global visibility but also laid a strong foundation for future international collaborations within Malaysia’s gold industry.

"Meetings with several esteemed international organisations further solidified Malaysia’s position and influence in the Southeast Asian gold market," Ng said.

At the expo, Ng delivered a presentation titled "Malaysian Gold & Jewellery Market: BRI in Malaysia-China Trade Relations," where he provided insights into Malaysia’s gold and jewellery trends, market size, consumer behaviour and regulatory framework while highlighting the various advantages of the Malaysian market.

The expo, China’s largest international gold industry event, aims to facilitate international exchange and collaboration, offering a platform for industry players to learn from one another and discuss forward-looking issues in the global gold industry.

This year’s event, themed "Innovation-Driven, Green Development and Shared Future," focused on three key sectors, namely gold mining, the gold market and gold consumption.
