MBSB Bank Teams Up With INSKEN, MAIJ To Launch Programme For Asnaf Community

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- MBSB Bank is collaborating with Institut Keusahawanan Negara (INSKEN) and the Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAIJ) to launch the MBSB Bank BEST (Be Entrepreneurs with Sustainable Transformation) programme for the asnaf community.

In a statement today, the bank said the programme aims to reshape Islamic social finance by empowering individuals within the asnaf community through intensive training, financial support and ongoing mentorship.

“We’re backing entrepreneurs from various asnaf categories, guiding them through four phases -- outreach, training, business assistance and monitoring.

“Our endgame? To see these participants evolve from zakat recipients to zakat payers, fuelling a cycle of empowerment that benefits the entire community,” it said.

The bank said the jewel in the crown of MBSB Bank BEST is the revolving zakat mechanism where zakat payments and repayments flow in a continuous cycle, creating a reservoir of capital for the entrepreneurs.

“The aim? To spark a culture of saving, investing and ultimately, thriving,” it said.

Meanwhile, group chief shariah and sustainability officer Ashraf Gomma Ali said the programme is not just about ticking boxes on corporate social responsibility but igniting the entrepreneurial spirit within the asnaf community, creating a ripple effect of giving and growing.

“We believe this initiative can make a real, lasting impact, transforming lives and fostering a future where these entrepreneurs become the very pillars of their communities,” he said.
