KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- Etiqa Life Insurance Bhd (ELIB) has announced the appointment of Leong Su Yern as its new chief executive officer (CEO), effective Jan 1, 2025.
In a statement today, the insurance company said that in her new role, Leong will report directly to Etiqa Insurance and Takaful Group CEO Kamaludin Ahmad, who has been serving as interim CEO of ELIB following the retirement of Paul Low in Dec 2023.
Kamaludin said Leong will drive ELIB’s strategic, financial, and operational growth to maximise shareholder value while prioritising customer interests.
“In addition, she will oversee sustainable growth strategies, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage risk.
“We also look forward to seeing her commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and the development of a future-ready workforce integrated into the company’s operations while embedding sustainability in both operations and investment strategies to ensure long-term growth,” he said.
ELIB said that Leong brings over 23 years of experience in the insurance industry and is a dedicated fellow of the Society of Actuaries. With more than 18 years in leadership roles, she has consistently driven strategic growth and operational excellence.
“Leong joined Etiqa in 2013 as head of pricing for life and family products, where she ensured regulatory compliance and developed pricing strategies for both ELIB and Etiqa Family Takaful Bhd.
“In 2022, she served as chief product officer at Maybank Ageas Holding Bhd before being assigned to ELIB to oversee sales channels as general manager in 2023,” it said.
ELIB added that Leong’s leadership has driven substantial project successes, including achieving agency manpower growth of over 40 per cent in 2024 and fostering a productive, bionic agency force grounded in ethical practices and long-term success.
