FOUR INDIVIDUALS, INCLUDING SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCER COUPLE, HELD FOR EMBEZZLING PUBLIC DONATIONS

PUTRAJAYA, July 11 (Bernama) -- Four individuals, including a couple working as social media influencers, have been arrested for misappropriating public donation funds since 2020.

A source from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said the suspects, three men and a woman, in their 20s and 30s, were arrested between 6.30 pm and 11 pm yesterday night when they showed up at the MACC headquarters to provide their statements.

"The suspects, who are a married couple, are believed to have committed the act since 2020 by misappropriating donations that were not channelled correctly," the source said when contacted here today, adding that the estimated collection of the donations had reached RM3 million.

The four individuals have been remanded for four days beginning today till July 14 to facilitate investigations. 

Meanwhile, MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the arrests when contacted today, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
