LIMBANG, July 9 (Bernama) -- The body of a fisherman feared missing from a crocodile attack in Sungai Kampung Pendam here yesterday, was found on Day 2 by the search and rescue (SAR) team today.

According to a spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations centre, the body of Karim Osman, 58, was found intact at 2.28 pm, about one kilometre from the location where the SAR team started control operations using the surface search method.

"The second day of the SAR operation began as early as 9 am with a surface search carried out along the river within a radius of one to two kilometres, in the area believed to be the last point where the crocodile was seen (yesterday)," he said in a statement today.

He said the victim's body was handed over to police for further action.

In the croc attack reported at about 3.13 pm yesterday, the victim was fishing alone when he was believed to be snatched by the reptile while fishing on the riverbank near Kampung Pandam.

According to witnesses, only the victim's personal belongings and fishing gear were found at the vanishing point.

The SAR team yesterday reportedly saw a crocodile briefly appear on the surface of the river with an object resembling a human body in the predator's jaws when the search was called off at twilight.
