Electrician Charged With Hurting Stepsons

SEREMBAN, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- An electrician was charged in the Sessions Court here today with three counts of voluntarily causing hurt to his three stepsons by hitting them with a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe.

M. Satiskumar, 44, pleaded not guilty to all the charges, two of which, involving were read out before  Judge Datin Surita Budin and the other before Judge N. Kanageswari.

For all three charges, he was charged with intentionally causing hurt by dangerous means to the three boys, aged 15, 16 and 19, with a PVC pipe at a house in Taman Bukit Mutiara here at 5.30 am on Aug 15 this year.

In the court before Judge N. Kanageswari, the boy’s biological mother, R. Tharani, 39, was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to the 16-year-old son using a knife at the same place and location.

The charges were framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which provides imprisonment for up to 10 years, or with fine, or with whipping, or with any two of such punishments,  and punishable under Section 326A of the same law, which provides punishment that may extend to twice the maximum term.

Satiskumar was allowed bail of RM33,000 with one surety for all three charges, while bail for Tharani was set at RM15,000 with one surety.

They were also ordered to surrender their passports to the court, report to a nearby police station once a month, and not to intimidate witnesses.

Deputy public prosecutors  Norazihah Asmuni and Siti Khairiah Abdul Razak prosecuted in the cases, respectively, while both accused were unrepresented.

The courts set Sept 24 and 29 for mention.
