GEORGE TOWN,  Aug 21 (Bernama) -- There were some anxious moments for residents of three houses when heavy rain, that lasted over three hours from about noon today, caused a landslide on a slope near their premises on Jalan Paya Terubong here.

However, there were no casualties.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department Operations Commander Mohamad Syafizani Mohd Rosli said they received an emergency call at 3.41 pm and dispatched a team of personnel from the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.

"The team found that a landslide, measuring about 21 square metres, had occurred on a slope near three houses.

"Public Works Department (JKR) personnel were also there to conduct an initial inspection, including placing a canvas on the landslide area to reduce soil movement,” he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, Paya Terubong assemblyman Wong Hon Wan urged JKR to conduct a thorough inspection, including soil movement checks on the slope area to ensure the safety of residents.
