AKPS Bars 12 Bogus Tourists At Bukit Kayu Hitam

ALOR SETAR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) issued 12 Notices of Refusal of Entry (NPM) against foreigners suspected of being bogus tourists at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex yesterday.

Bukit Kayu Hitam AKPS Commander SAC Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir said the individuals were found to have violated Section 8(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, including lacking valid visas, failing to comply with the required break of stay and having questionable travel purposes.

“Twelve individuals were served with refusal notices. They comprised nine Sri Lankans, eight men and one woman, along with three Thai women. 

“They were ordered to return to their country of origin via the same entry point,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the enforcement was carried out in line with existing standard operating procedures and departmental circulars.

He added that no seizures were made and no criminal elements or enforcement investigations were identified.

Meanwhile, Mohd Nasaruddin said AKPS confiscated 344.96 kg of food products at the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS on Thursday, which lacked valid import documentation and carried labels that failed to comply with the Food Act 1983.

The seizure was made during an inspection at the ICQS bus lane between 4.20 pm and 11.50 pm.

“The seized items, estimated to be worth RM5,000, will be disposed of after 30 days in accordance with disposal procedures. No arrests were made in the operation,” he said.
