PUTRAJAYA, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will recover RM12 million believed to be related to two cases involving oil and gas solutions provider Sapura Energy Bhd (SEB).

In a press conference here today, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said MACC, with the approval of the deputy public prosecutor, agreed to recover the money.

"Therefore, MACC, with the agreement of the deputy public prosecutor (DPP), will recover the RM12 million in the near future, forfeit the company’s rights and return it to the government.

"The DPP will consider whether or not to charge any party," he said.

The case occurred in 2018, when Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) injected funds into SEB, making it a government-linked company (GLC).

Previously, Azam said MACC was investigating allegations of misuse of RM12 million involving the SEB case.

"Another (SEB) case being investigated involving (assets) from abroad is still ongoing," he said.

Meanwhile, Azam said nine more individuals would be charged in a case of criminal breach of trust and money laundering related to MEX II Highway project.

Without revealing the individuals involved, he said all of them were believed to be involved in money transactions and the director of Syarikat Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed will be charged later this month.

Yesterday, MACC DPP Datuk Ahmad Akram Gharib confirmed that Abu Sahid will be charged again at the Shah Alam Sessions Court soon, on seven charges of misappropriating funds involving the same project.

In a media statement, Ahmad Akram said former construction company director Datuk Yap Wee Leong will also be charged in the same court (Shah Alam) in relation to the same project.
