Fire Rages Through 150-Hectare Palm Oil Plantation In Nenasi

KUANTAN, March 24 (Bernama) -- Another oil palm plantation in Nenasi, Pekan, has been on fire since yesterday, with firefighting operations still ongoing today.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) deputy director Wan Ahmad Fadillah Wan Abdul Rahman said his team has successfully brought the fire affecting around 150 hectares of the 500-hectare plantation under control.

“So far, 48 hectares have been extinguished, with firefighting operations divided into two teams using a portable pump with two 300-foot hose streams drawing from open water sources,” he said in a statement today.

He said a request for assistance from the JBPM Air Unit has been submitted to accelerate firefighting efforts due to limited access to the fire site, which hinders the movement of vehicles and personnel.

He said JBPM is also conducting firefighting operations at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Jemeri, Kuala Rompin, covering an area of about 292 hectares, which has entered its second day.

“So far, 6.07 hectares have been extinguished, while the remaining is estimated at around 286 hectares. The operation is being carried out using a portable pump with a 600-foot hose and two water streams,” he said.

Overall, Wan Ahmad Fadillah said the operations involve 28 personnel from the Nenasi and Kuala Rompin Fire and Rescue Stations, supported by assets including Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) vehicles, four-wheel-drive vehicles, and support lorries.

“So far, no casualties have been reported and firefighting operations continue, with the fire in both locations reported to be gradually under control,” he said.

He advised the public not to conduct open burning, to always comply with instructions from the authorities, and to report fire incidents immediately via the 999 emergency hotline.
