Appointment Of New MACC Chief Not Merely A Transition, Major Trust To Strengthen Integrity – MCPF

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- The appointment of Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman as the new chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is seen as more than just a leadership transition, but a significant trust in upholding the rule of law and strengthening public confidence in the institution, according to the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation.

Its vice-chairman, Datuk Seri Dr King Lim Chin Fui, said Abdul Halim was expected to lead the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission with high integrity, firm principles and courageous, credible leadership when he assumed duty on May 13.

“Society today places high expectations on the MACC. The new leadership must demonstrate through action, not merely words, that this institution is truly independent, professional and capable of carrying out its duties without fear or favour,” he said in a statement today.

King Lim said efforts to combat corruption must be carried out consistently and fairly without creating perceptions of selective prosecution, while every case must be handled based on facts and evidence, regardless of background, position or influence.

He said corruption was not merely a legal issue, but also affected governance, investor confidence and national development, adding that MCPF remained committed to working with MACC in strengthening public awareness, integrity education and prevention efforts, especially among the younger generation.

“What the public wants to see is clear action, transparent investigations, and outcomes that reflect justice and courage. When MACC dares to investigate and act openly, confidence in the institution will be restored,” he added.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar had earlier announced that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had consented to Abdul Halim’s appointment as the new MACC chief commissioner, effective May 13.
