KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) has impounded 41 luxury vehicles through “Ops Luxury” which was carried out from January until mid-May this year.
JPJ WPKL Director Hamidi Adam said that out of that number, 11 vehicles remain in custody, while 30 other cases have been resolved after enforcement action was taken against the vehicle owners.
He said that among the primary offences detected during the operation were expired Motor Vehicle Licenses (LKM/road tax) and the failure to possess valid insurance coverage.
“Ops Luxury is carried out continuously to detect luxury vehicle owners who fail to comply with road regulations despite owning high-value vehicles. There were vehicles that failed to settle road tax worth RM10,000,” he told reporters during a JPJ WPKL press conference here today.
Hamidi added that among the vehicles detected in the operation were a Bentley Continental Flying Spur, Rolls-Royce Ghost, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Porsche Cayman, Mercedes-Benz AMG, BMW, Audi, Land Rover Defender, and a Ford Mustang.
According to him, checks also revealed that some vehicles had been using road tax that expired as far back as 2018, while some owners failed to renew their respective insurance coverage.
He emphasised that enforcement action will continue from time to time without compromise against any vehicle owners who refuse to comply with the set regulations.
