Married Couple Among Three Remanded In MACC False Claims Probe

IPOH, May 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Perak has obtained a remand order against three individuals - a government department director, an executive officer and a company owner - over the submission of documents containing false particulars involving health treatment claims amounting to about RM53,000.

A source said a seven-day remand order until May 26 was issued against two suspects, a married couple in their 40s, by Magistrate A Hafiizh Abu Bakar after an application by the MACC at the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning.

“A five-day remand order until May 24 was also issued against another male suspect, a government department director in his 50s.

“All three suspects were detained between about 4.50 pm and 9.30 pm on Tuesday when they turned up to give statements at the Perak MACC office,” the source said.

Initial investigations found that the suspects were believed to have conspired in committing the offence between 2024 and 2025.

“The three suspects are believed to have submitted documents containing false particulars to a government agency to claim reimbursement for physical rehabilitation treatment expenses, although the treatment was never carried out,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Perak MACC director Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
