MELAKA, Nov 30 -- After a year’s delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) will hold its 16th convocation ceremony from Dec 9 to 12.
Its deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) who is also acting as UTeM vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Ghazali Omar said, this year's convocation will see 2,979 graduands for the year 2020 receiving their scrolls.
“As we need to comply with the standard operating procedures and instructions from the National Security Council (MKN), the Health Ministry and Higher Education Ministry, we are limiting the number of parents and students coming to the event,” he told a press conference to announce the convocation today.
Also present were deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Dr Zulkfilie Ibrahim, deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs) Datuk Dr Sabri Mohamad Sharif, assistant vice-chancellor (Industry and Community Network) Prof Dr Md Nazri Othman and assistant vice-chancellor (Facilities Development and Management) Assoc Prof Mohd Rahimi Yusoff.
However, he said parents who could not enter the main hall could still witness the ceremony which will be telecast live from the adjoining hall.
The convocation to be held through eight sessions will see a total of 2,254 graduands receiving their Bachelor's degree, Diploma (512), Master's degree (190), PhD (21) and Doctor of Engineering (2) in various technology and engineering-based fields.
Ghazali added that the Royal Education Award, Chancellor's Prize, Vice Chancellor's Prize, Industry Prize and Industry Special Prize will also be presented at the event.
Meanwhile, Md Nazri said the UTeM Convo Festival in conjunction with the convocation ceremony will be held virtually.
“For the first time, the convocation festival will be organised virtually and rebranded as TUAH Virtual Convo Fest 2021 (TUAH VCF 21), where all programmes will be live streamed via MyHEP UTeM Facebook," he said.
