Melaka launches Green Transport Master Plan

MELAKA, July 16 (Bernama) -- The state government today launched the Melaka Green Transport Masterplan with a pilot project involving the use of environment-friendly and smart transport for one month starting today.

State Works, Transport, Public Facilities, Infrastructure and Flood Management Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the master plan involved the implementation of the Green Bus Network and the Heritage Area Integrated Mobility Plan.

He said implementation of the master plan would serve as a catalyst to encourage the public to use the public transport system more widely.

"Four buses will be provided, namely one bus for use by tourists in the Bandar Hilir, while three buses will be stage buses for the route between Melaka Sentral and Ujong Pasir.

"There will also be scooters and electric bicycles will be placed in the parking area at ​​Menara Taming Sari for the use by visitors,  but they cannot ride them outside the area,” he told reporters after the launch of the Melaka Green Transport Master Plan by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali here today.

Also present was British High Commissioner to Malaysia Charles Hay.

Rahmad said to facilitate implementation of the master plan, two applications, namely 'Just Naik' and 'Tryke' were developed for visitors to use for bus ride, as well as to ride the electric bicycles and scooters.

He said the implementation of all the initiatives would be extended if the pilot project was well received by the public.
